If you wear braces and are concerned about your ability to play sports, our team can help you ensure your orthodontic experience is successful with the right guidelines. We address a few braces FAQs about wearing an orthodontic mouth guard when playing sports.
Can I wear braces and play sports?
Yes, braces won’t keep you from playing any sport you like. We understand that children, teens and adults are often involved in contact sports and other activities, and we are here to help them protect their braces.
How can I prevent injury to my teeth and braces?
When you play any sport, you should wear a mouth guard that protects your teeth. We are happy to offer an orthodontic mouth guard that also protects your orthodontic appliance so that you aren’t injured when hit in the mouth.
What does an orthodontic mouth guard do?
This small, portable oral appliance is worn over your teeth so that any elbows, knees or hard objects that come your way won’t hurt your smile. Mouth guards can consist of rubber or silicone and come in three styles: stock, boil and bite and custom. To receive a mouth guard that has a custom fit, you are welcome to speak with our orthodontist.
What if I have a dental emergency?
An oral injury of any kind should be treated by our team at Neibaur Family Orthodontics as soon as possible. You can also reduce your risk of injuries by wearing a mouth guard any time you are vulnerable to lip and cheek lacerations and damage to your braces and teeth.
We invite you to contact our office today at (801) 341-2191 and arrange a consultation with Dr. Ben Neibaur to discuss how you can protect your braces during orthodontic treatment in Draper, Utah.
